9.0 MISCELLANEOUS

9.1 Acronyms

Internet users in general have developed their own shorthand for e-communications. There is a comprehensive list of e-shorthand and emoticons (those little smiley faces made up of keyboard characters to indicate emotion) that can be found at the website here: http://www.stevegrossman.com/jargpge.htm

Another smaller, yet Early Edition skewed list can be found here: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Makeup/3281/acronym.htm

For anything not covered in either of those sites, the general thing to keep in mind is that fans of a particular series will most often make acronyms out of the episode titles (DWAR for "Don't Walk Away Renee," etc.), out of the character names (GH for Gary Hobson), or out of the actor names (FS for Fisher Stevens). Keep those things in mind, and you shouldn't have any troubles.

9.2 Early Edition "Drinking Game"

"Drinking games" are popular to fandom, and are generally played by taking a drink (of the beverage of your choice) when certain actions take place during an episode. To view the rules and guidelines for the only known Early Edition Drinking Game (by David Riches), visit this webpage: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Makeup/3281/drink.htm

9.3 The Opening Sequence

During the first season the opening sequence was all music. Starting with the second season, it also included sort of an explanation of what the series is about.

Season 2 and part of season three:
What if you knew, beyond a doubt, what was going to happen tomorrow. What would you do? There is no easy answer for a guy who gets tomorrow's news... today. (Spoken by Fisher Stevens in Season 2. It was also spoken by Kyle Chandler, Shanesia Williams, and an unidentified man during an experimental phase of Season 3.)

Season 3 and part of 4, as spoken by unidentified man:
His name is Gary Hobson. He gets tomorrow's newspaper today. He doesn't know how. He doesn't know why. He only knows, when the early edition hits his front door, he has 24 hours to set things right.

Season 4, as spoken by Gary Hobson himself (snippets taken from JOOTT):
I get tomorrow's newspaper... today. I'm out there saving people's lives. That's what I do, you see.

9.5 Early Edition Conventions

There have been no "official" CBS-sponsored Early Edition Conventions, but a group of fans have put together two unofficial Early Edition Conventions (or "EELFests") so far. The first convention was held at the Hilton in downtown Chicago on October 26 - 27, 2001. The second was held at the Hampton in near "McGinty's" on August 24, 2002. For more information on past and future conventions, visit the Early Edition Convention website here: http://www.geocities.com/eelfestnews/

10.0 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

10.1 Acknowledgments

Most profuse and grateful thanks go to the creators of Early Edition, to Sony/TriStar, to CBS, and to the cast and crew, without whom there would be no need for an EE FAQ.

Extra-special thanks to all of the following:

David Riches, who created the original EE FAQ, and who gave permission for it to be altered.

Nicole Parrot, original iEEL "list mom," and her successor SkyDancer, for maintaining an Early Edition community where everyone is able to discuss the show.

Sky Dancer again for suggesting some additions and/or changes to various sections of the FAQ.

Lenore Hutton and the "Extra Edition" for providing the background information for Cat and Spike.

Raul Moreno for providing additional information, especially about Trucker's current status.

Fans of the show and those behind-the-scenes who have passed along their Early Edition knowledge.

And last, but certainly not least, the fabulous ladies of the GTA, who provided many of those difficult-to-write character sketches found in this FAQ, especially Inkling for allowing their use here, and peregrin-anna for helping to keep things as grammatically correct as possible.

If you have any information to contribute, or can suggest additional subjects for the FAQ, please send them to earlydues@yahoo.com.
