Emmett is in this one, too, and he's *fabulous*! Wish he had shown up in more episodes. Would have loved to have seen he and Marissa out having a night or two on the town. |

I saw this episode for the fisrt time, and I loved the part when Gary is trying to get the monkey to pick up the paper. :D And he says something like, "Monkey see. Monkey see. Just pick up the paper. Monkey do. Monkey see, monkey do. Just pick up the paper. Pick up the paper. Come on, just pick up the paper!" ;) and at the same time he is jumping up and down, pretending to pick up the paper! :) |

Does anyone on the list have any kind of medical background. When the doctors told Gary the monkey had some kind of strain of the herpes virus. That worries me. Can anyone explain if this is really bad? I know he's just an imaginary character, but it still bothers me. :) |

I don't know Dollene, but I thought I'd die laughing at the look on Gary's face when the dr asked him if he'd ever been exposed to a certain type of herpes virus or something like that. :D Gary's expression is just too funny for words! |

Dollene, it depends what kind of herpes virus the person has - chicken pox, canker and cold sores and shingles are all forms of herpes. But then, there are other kinds that are fatal. Isn't that charming? |

Thanks Ren. It still gives me the shivers to think about it. Couldn't they have used some other non lethal disease? |

Yeah! That episode is one of the funniest! Gary getting the monkey to pick up the paper was so funny!!! Heee! I have that episode on tape! I loved his facial expression when he learned that the monkey had that virus or whatever it was and the camera gave a closeup (well I haven't seen it for a while) and his brows scrunched up! |

One thing I have
to say about this particular episode (besides the fact
that you worry about Gary, the old man and love to see
Emmett) is that Kyle's faint was much more convincing/realistic
in this than in Just One of Those Things. He was so stiff
in JOOTT but in Pinch Hitters you can see his mind
clouding over and the "lights going out" as he
fainted from the illness that was coming over him. I also love the sheepish? look on his face when he asks if he can have his paper back! And Cat sure led the lab people on a merry chase didn't he? Go Cat! |

Well, we could
reason that in Just One of Those Things he was so cold
that he couldn't flop. I only briefly caught the faint as
the scene quickly faded to the images just before the ads
(us Aussies know what it is). I've got that ep on tape. That was very funny the cat sending the lab people on a chase, and even funnier when Gary quickly squashed his face to the window in amazement to see the cat there!!! He is so good at acting and I love all the facial expressions Gary does in EE! |

I thought his faint at the doctor's office very convincing. His eyes kind of drooped and his speach started to slur before he keels over. He does a great faint. Yes, Kyle is a master of expressions. |

I think the scene
in the doctor's office was a matter of his voice kept
dropping like to a whisper because of the stomach pains. I love the description he gives the doctor 'Icepick in my stomach'. That's pretty severe pains. The biggest indication that something is seriously wrong with him is not just the hesitation as he gets hit with the stomach pains but the doctor's concerned voice telling him he looks kind of pale. I agree with the comment about the second faint. He did look pretty cold. I think he was cold and wet and filthy and getting a shower and going to bed were the best things he could have done. I don't know about Patrick's herbalist's stomach ache cure though. At least not the ground beetle extract. Gary was pretty desperate to drink that. It's just that in pinch hitters you can see that Gary was scared. He'd just seen the article in the paper and saw the monkey lying on the bottom of it's cage not moving. I almost think you see him getting pale and maybe breaking out in a little bit of a sweat on his forehead just before he fainted. His knees just buckled that time. He was out in about two seconds after his eyes closed. |
