Are we really truly going to Chicago? If we are, we better start getting ourselves organized. I have atleast one friend that wants to come along, maybe more. The thought of a womens weekend, doing something really wacky really appeals to my friends. You know, ditch the family for a weekend, ditch the laundry, the cleaning etc. Even though they think I'm geeky for getting involved with this board, they want to meet you guys also. One of my best buds and I are walking around the office singing Chicago that toddlin town. How do we get tickets for the show. Should we send away for a block of them now?

It looks like Oct 25-28 is good for everyone. Tapings are pretty much done for the first season, so we have to wait till May to find out if the show will be picked up, then several of us will have to call as they only do 4 tickets/person. I haven't done any research on hotels or anything yet, aside from the few recommendations I've gotten, because I'm leaving for vacation this Saturday and I've been busy. I'll be gone for a week, but when I get back I'll start looking into things more. If anyone has any more info on hotels or other recommendations, keep us posted.

My husband stayed in the Chicago Hilton when he went there for a conference. If we share rooms, it may not be that bad. He said that the Hilton is right in the hub of where they shot most of the outside sceens for EE and when we watch ee he tells me all the places he saw that gar went to. Would I be winning to say I want Gar back. I don't have anything against Joan, but I want the show to be about Gar, not Joan waa, whine, pout, etc.

Just a bit of advice- Chicago is the "big" convention town. There is always some convention or trade show going on and hotel rooms fill up fast. If you are serious about going you probably should get checking on things. A good place to check for trade and convention info is the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau. Our family is going in August and luckily it's during a slow time.

Staying at the Hilton would be interesting because much of The Iceman Taketh filmed there(I wonder if we could go up on the roof?) ;), and it also happens to be right next to the Blackstone, but I don't know what rooms go for.

For some reason I haven't been able to access the string on meeting in Chicago. Everytime I try I get a response that the site isn't responding. Are you guys trying to tell me something? :)

Anyway, October 25th is my son's 6th birthday and on the heels of my 7th wedding anniversary, so as much as I'd like to go, I can't. Andy would never understand. He's understanding-but not that much. Maybe next time. sob, sob, sob, sniff.......

OMG!!! I am so excited. I just got an email from my sister and my brother in law just gave her a free southwest ticket for anywhere in the USA that SW flies to give to me for the trip :) I am so psyched now. I'm all excited and now Shana is gone for a week and I am ready to start planning. LOL. I guess I had better wait till the show gets picked up before I get too excited, huh. Well, I think I will still stay a little excited. :)

Unless they change the taping schedule of "What About Joan", I was under the impression that they tape only the first three weeks of the month. I can't remember where I read it, maybe on another board. I just attended a taping and this is something you do not want to miss. The dates that you selected October 25-28 would fall into that time period (the fourth week). With only one more taping this season, I don't know where you could get an answer.

I guess we need to keep a close eye for any details in May on whether the show was picked up. I was looking at hotels in Chicago, I'm going to have to pick up a map since I have no clue where anything is located. There were two Hilton's on one site, Chicago Hilton O'hare Airport and for October it only showed one-bed rooms available at $224. The Chicago Hilton and Towers has double-bed rooms in October at $304. On a Joan Cusack website they listed this phone number for tickets to the taping (773) 473-8224. Don't know if that will still be valid come May. Do we want to have a few people call for 4 tickets each, enough to cover the group or have people call individually? Do they even let you pick the day you want to attend or do you just take whatever happens to get sent to you? Questions, questions, questions. Probably a little early to be worrying about the details.

I think as far as the tapings go we can request what date we want if the show isn't already sold out. They only allow 4 tickets per person. so after we find out who is definetly going we can pick out people to call and get 4 tickets and may a few extra people to call in case someone decided to join us late. As far as looking around for hotel prices and such I ordered the travelers guide to chicago andit lists hotel names and numbers. I thought when I got it I would call and have hotels send me brochures which should have location maps of where they are located. If anyone else wants to do this too and we can narrow down possible places to stay. I say before we make any definite plans we find out for sure if the show has been picked up and when the filming dates are going to be. :)

TerriRuth, I just bought a very detailed map of the Chicago downtown area. I mean, it identifies every building, whether it's a restaurant, hotel, apartment building, store, you name it. Personally, I think it might be better to stay at a hotel downtown, rather than one at the airport, so that we could explore downtown on foot. Of course, we would still need to figure out how to get to the studio, since it's not within walking distance of downtown.

Staying downtown sounds good to me, whatever will work best. Someone had mentioned staying at Hilton since it was used for "The Iceman Taketh" but it seems a little pricey. Next time I'm at AAA I'm going to get a tourbook for IL, it'll list hotels and prices for Chicago.

I was the one who thought it might be interesting, TerriRuth, but not at $300 a night. :) The map I have shows a Days Inn, a Best Western, and several Holiday Inns, which I would assume would be much more reasonably priced. One of the Best Westerns is just a couple of blocks from both McGinty's and the Sun-Times building and seems to be the most centrally located.

If only there were a way to get a better rate at the Hilton. I'll have to check the Tourbook for the prices at that Best Western. I'm stopping by AAA on Wednesday.

Ok everyone, here goes: After attending the last taping, I feel that the best bet for everyone to be able to get tickets would be to have one person write a letter (that is the process now, no more calling for tickets) and see if we could all get in under VIP status. I'm pretty darn sure they just give you the date they give you, and there are no requests. That is how I understood it when I received mine. I was the fourth person in line, and I barely got in (there were only 17 of us that did) so you figure all those people that didn't get in ALREADY have VIP status for next season. Sorry to say it, but it doesn't feel like the odds are so good for getting this done individually. We could try, but after my experience, I think the best route would be to get a head count, then I'll (yes, I volunteer)write a letter to the show (I'm geographically close). It MAY be important to get this letter in before the show hits the air, that way they'll get it before all the "regular" TV watchers out there in TV Land decide they'd like tickets. We do have one thing on our side...if we let them know all the areas of the country you guys are from, they may go ahead and do it. Most of the audience was local the other night. I don't mean to sound pushy, but after the other night, I couldn't help but feel the urgency of the situation. Let me know what you think, and hopefully we can get this organized, and that way we can present a united front! All we can do is try! How 'bout it?

Monica: Sounds good to me. 2 tickets for Kokomo, IN, please. And a suggestion; how about if we do a little "overbooking" of our own? Maybe request a *few* (4 or 5) extra tickets for any late comers. We can always turn in the extras.

Thanks Monica for writing the letter and helping us out. :)

Amy, I had the same idea the other day about getting extra tickets just to increase our chances of getting in since they overbook. I guess we're on the same page. :)

Monica and Amy, I think that is a very good idea, the overbooking and the letter requesting VIP tickets. From what I understand, Monica, you were in the last row at the taping even though you had the first four of the regular tickets. I was at the 3-2-01 taping. I remember that people in the last row were coming down and complaining that they couldn't see anything up there. I also know that there were people who did not get any seats. Getting back to my earlier posts, because our taping was cancelled twice, we were given VIP tickets. I was afraid (and had no way of knowing) that up to 300 VIP tickets for only 200 seats could have been given out for the same date. Adding that to something else to worry about, my son drives the toll roads every day to work, and he told us that it doesn't take much for the roads to back up. Once he was in traffic 6 hours. Because I was in a state of panic, we left early, and that is the only thing that got us the first four VIP tickets that put us in the second row. Yes, I would definitely try to get more tickets than what you need. While in the waiting room, everyone I spoke to came to see Kyle, and only Kyle. Anything can happen once the show is airing. I'm sure there will be a greater demand for tickets.
