Ok...here goes everybody! I would like to send my letter off to What About Joan very soon, actually asap! I think it'll be very important to get the letter there BEFORE March 27, so I'd like to get it done this week. In order to write a serious letter, I need a ballpark figure (at the very least) of how many of us are SERIOUSLY going to go. Keep in mind that WE most likely will not be able to pick the show date! The powers that be are just that! Please let me know so that I can write the letter and hopefully get this whole thing going! Are you with me? Thanks, I appreciate it! Monica

You can put me down for one! :)

Thanks Monica for getting the ball rolling on this. Put me down for three. We may have an EE fan from Germany coming. She used to chat on this board before she got too busy.

Wow, Shana, a fan/friend from Germany. That would be so neat! I'm guessing the other person coming is your husband? It will be fun to meet him, too. After all, we've heard so much about him ;). I'll send in my final count within the next day. I've sent a note to a fan in Indianapolis to see if she'll come, too.

Yes, you may remember Julia from Berlin. She and I have kept in touch via e-mail and she wants to go. If we go in mid to late October, the chances are pretty good she'll be able to come. As for my husband, I really want him to come, but he's not sure. First, he has a deathly fear of flying and second, he doesn't want to be the man invading the ladies vacation. We'll see!!

Hey Monica, if you add in to the letter that someone is even coming all the way from Germany, maybe that'll have even more of an impact on them. Let's take every advantage we can. :)

Shana - Tell your husband that I had an uncle-in-law who liked to be part of 'ladies vacations' He felt like the rooster with a bunch of hens :D. OF COURSE - that wouldn't really apply to us :D. I just thought it was a funny story. Fear of flying? Hmmm, knock him out??

It's funny Amy, because the vacation we were just on was with two female friends and he had no problem with that. In fact this was our third vacation with them. But then again, they're both....well...a little on the masculine side. He's ordered a book on how to overcome fear of flying. Hopefully it'll help. Otherwise, I might just take your suggestion and knock him out. :D

Monica, I probably don't need to remind you of this, but don't forget to count Dollene. I hope she's okay. I saw on the weather channel that the whole state of Louisiana is in for severe weather today. Even tornado watches and warnings.

Gee Shana....I don't know. I suppose we could take turns talking in deep voices and swaggering a little...and I know *some* women battle facial hair...on the other hand, maybe.... he could.....nah.

Monica - I hope you don't mind. Shana and I are getting off topic...a bit :)
shana93
03/14/01
LOL Amy, that might scare him off going even more. A bunch of women with facial hair and deep voices. :O Yikes! Even I'm getting scared. :D It would be a lot easier for me if he went, but he's already talking about going to Myrtle Beach with his pal Chris that same weekend.

I think my husband would have a grand old time if he went with us. Back in the carefree pre-children imbibing days, he would get off work earlier than the rest of the guys, but still meet up with the girls. The phrase, "There's Kerry and his harem" was uttered more than once!
On the business side, I can "request" that weekend, but I think that would be VERY iffy. As I said before, I think it's pretty much you go when THEY decide...especially if we're asking for VIP! We'll take our chances though, right? The old saying, "beggars can't be choosers" unfortunately comes to mind.
Don't worry, I could NEVER forget Dollene! I do hope she's ok!

Monica, put me down for one. If I can't come, I'll give the ticket to someone else. Steph
Amy-Kokomo
03/15/01
3 tickets, please. 2 for Kokomo, IN and 1 for Indianapolis (Peregrin Anna, List Mum of the Early Edition FanFic site wants to come!)

Do you suppose if you stressed the distances everyone is traveling, that might make a difference? I sure hope so.

Monica, I am kicking myself here. I almost forgot TerriRuth, who is moving and has no internet access for awhile. She definitely wants to come. And add another one for Tracy. She's going to try and it won't hurt to have a few extras anyway. Thanks!!

Hey everyone...Amy makes a VERY good point! Yes, I believe that would help a great deal if everyone lets me know what area of the country they're coming from. Most of the audience when I went was local, there were only a few people from out of state! I think this could make a difference, so please let me know, so I can send the info out in my initial letter...it may grab their attention.
shana93
03/15/01
Monica, by what date do you need this info, because I am going to have a message posted to the fanfic list for any who might want to go? It might help if I give a deadline for the letter.

Btw, I'm from New Jersey (2) and my friend Julia is from Berlin, Germany. And if Tracy comes, she's from PA.

I'd like to get the letter out by the 19th. That way I can be sure it gets there (and most probably READ) before the 27th!
shana93
03/15/01
Ok, I sent a message to the Listmom of the fanfic site and gave the 18th as the cutoff date. It's short notice, but what can ya do. I'll let you know the results.

I don't know where I will be coming from, because I don't know where I'll be next year- that is in the hands of God. I suppose you should just put down Virginia for me, which is where I am currently. :)

A couple more suggestions -- watch out, I'm on a roll :). Do they have a fax line? Could you fax your letter AND mail it? How about priority mail or registered letter? I know that would cost extra $$$ but might also get some attention.

Thanks again for doing this. BTW, you obviously have a very intelligent 5 yr old.!
Newf65
03/15/01
Registered mail sounds good. As far as the fax goes, I don't think they've published that number, although surely they must have one.

Yes, my youngest is really an 70yr old woman in a 5yr old's body. That was a conclusion we came to long ago. I just HAVE to relate this story to you...I know, I know it's OT, but when it comes to my kids, sometimes I cant help myself!:
My husband and I were watching All In The Family and our youngest, who was four at the time, was sitting with us. The episode dealt with Archie meeting (unbeknownst to him) a female impersonator named Beverly LaSalle. When Beverly showed up at Archie's door, my 4yr old said, "What is that?" My hubby and I weren't sure what she was talking about, so we asked her to repeat what she was asking about. She pointed at "Beverly" and said, "THAT." "What IS that? That's an IT!" We about fell on the floor. Sometimes kids can be so perceptive it's astounding.

Mark me down as a definite 'maybe' for 1 from WI. :)

Oh, come on, only a definite maybe? You've gotta come out from behind the cheese curtain sometime!!! :)

You have to remember those folks in WI have a little trouble counting, although not nearly as much as FL. ;)

Heeeeeyyyyy, no fair making fun of us. Our brains are too cold to count!! ;)

Yes, a definite maybe. I'm one of those can't-commit-til-the-last-minute kind of people. :)

I'm baaaaaack! Thanks for remembering to count me in for the trip. I am ready although my experiences with flying are getting worse. Grrr. And we only had one night of bad weather but it was just hard rain and fortunately I slept through it. Let's hope we can tickets for the weekend we want. Since we are all traveling so far and we are asking ahead maybe they will be kind and try to work with us on the date. I mean how many other groups are planning something this far ahead? Gotta run, have a baby shower to go to. TTYAL. :)

Welcome back, Dollene. :)

Monica, I've had some responses from the fanfic list. I'll wait till Sunday night and post the numbers and locations all at once here. :)

welcome back-even tho I don't post a whole lot you can really notice when the regulars are away! hope you had a good trip. :)

Sounds good, it's easier to keep track when they all come in at once. Let's hope I can come up with a magnificent letter that they cannot deny! I feel kind of like Ralphie writing his theme on why he should get a genuine Red Ryder Carbine Action Two-Hundred Shot Lightning Loader Range Model Air Rifle for Christmas (let's hope I do better than a C+)!

Monica, four of us will be coming from New York...by the way, speaking of not hearing from some people, where has MsSpider been, I don't think that she's posted for a while.

I'm still here. I've had trouble reading this board. So many times the pages just time out. So I give up and go away. You can count me in. I'm from Ohio. Close but yet so far. I'm just hoping I'm not the only person over 35 going. :D Oh well doesn't matter. Anybody else coming by alone?
moogie454
03/18/01
MsSpider, I'm over thirty-five and so are my pals, not to worry. By the way Monica I think I need 5 tickets. All of my old lady friends are looking foward to leaving home for a weekend.

Thats ok, don't worry, I turned 36 on Thursday.

Don't worry, MsSpider, you can include me in the over 35 group. :D And I'm coming alone, too. :)

Looks like I'll be catching up with you ladies pretty soon. :( I was wondering if I was going to be the only single girl going? Everyone else seems to be married. Not that you married ladies aren't any fun, you'll probably be wilder than us single ones. You know a weekend away from the hubby and house work.LOL
shana93
03/18/01
Ok Monica, here's the final count from the fanfic list:
5 from IN
1 from WI
2 from MD
1 from NM
1 from NH
1 from TX
1 from ? (she ignored my repeated request to specify where she was from.)

That's it!! Anyone else who e-mails me is too late. Of course it wouldn't hurt to inflate the numbers a little though. Thanks so much for writing this letter. And I'm confident you'll do better than Ralphie (I hope you won't shoot your eye out though). ;)
Newf65
03/18/01
Thanks a bunch! Thanks for putting your trust in me everyone, I'll do my level best. For those who don't want to let us know where you're from...how in the world will we get the tickets to you? We're not psychic.
Nah, I won't be in danger of shooting my eye out, but someone may be tempted to give me the, ecccchhhhh, Lifebuoy treatment! I promise I won't be demanding, swear, or anything like that. I'll be good.

Ok everyone, the letter is off to Chicago. It should get there by Thursday. I have no idea when I'll hear from the show, as they find out sometime in May whether the show is picked up or not. I have no idea if they are going to be answering any of the letters before that. I sincerely hope they do. I will keep everyone posted every step of the way...if you don't hear anything from me, that means I haven't heard from them yet.
If this makes you nervous, you can write for your tickets at:
What About Joan
PO Box 31354
Chicago IL 60631-0354
include your name, address, and they ask for two phone numbers.

Let's hope for the best!

03/20/01
Monica - I'm just curious. How many tickets did you end up requesting? Can we take over the entire studio? :D

Thanks bunches for taking this on. At least if it works, we'll all go at the same time! Poor Kyle, heheheheh.

Ah, initially forty. I'm sure, and I'm sure they're sure that that number will change.

Can you tell I've been watching a lot of Homefront?

LOL You're welcome. I feel very lax in my HF knowledge. You and Shana both have me beat. I guess I need to watch it a little more often. :)
