From "St. Anthony's Congregation, Souvenir of the Jubilee - 1857-1907," page 24:

"The first death occurred Jan. 16, 1857. Mr. Fred. Deidelhof, [Deitelhoff] 35 years of age, and the second Catholic settler, was struck by a falling timber. He lived for two days. The priest of Sauk City was sent for, but Mr. Deidelhof had died before the priest arrived. He was interred at first in the St. Bridget's graveyard; later on he was removed to St. Anthony's cemetery."
